Police officers suspended in separate misconduct cases in India
Two separate incidents involving police misconduct have led to the suspension of officers in India.
In Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, Sub-Inspector Lalan Kumar was suspended following an inquiry into allegations of harassment. Kumar, who was posted at the Ahiyapur police station, allegedly made obscene calls and sent objectionable messages to a woman whose case he was investigating. An inquiry directed by the Senior Superintendent of Police examined call details and audio recordings, concluding that Kumar misused his position. Departmental proceedings have been initiated.
In Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, Station House Officer Neeraj Kumar was suspended after an obscene video was circulated in an official police station WhatsApp group. The video reportedly featured Kumar and a female police officer. Following his suspension, a video surfaced showing Kumar at a temple with a woman constable, claiming they had performed a mental marriage and intended to live as a couple once legal obstacles are resolved. Local police officials stated they would investigate the new video.
