Police officers use tourniquet to save fishmonger in Valencia

A 54-year-old fishmonger at the Central Market in Valencia was critically injured on Saturday morning after accidentally cutting her arm with scissors while opening a box. The accident caused severe, heavy bleeding.

Officers from the Policía de la Generalitat Valenciana arrived first on the scene. One officer, who has specialized military paramedic training, applied an emergency tourniquet while his partner used gauze to control the blood loss. This intervention successfully halted the hemorrhage until medical services arrived.

Because the responding Basic Life Support ambulance did not include medical personnel, the officer who performed the compression maneuver accompanied the victim in the ambulance to monitor her condition during the transfer to the hospital. Other local and national police units also assisted at the scene.
