Police operation concludes in Eldorado do Sul after shooting of officer

A large-scale police operation in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre has concluded after more than 20 hours of searching for two suspects. The search focused on a wooded area between Eldorado do Sul and Arroio dos Ratos, near the Arroio dos Ratos State Penitentiary.

The incident began on Tuesday night when military police attempted to approach a vehicle. One occupant opened fire, striking an officer with shrapnel near the eye. The officer was treated at a hospital in Porto Alegre and has since been discharged.

The suspects, identified as a man wanted for drug trafficking and his minor son, fled into a dense eucalyptus plantation on foot after abandoning their vehicle. Despite the use of helicopters, drones, and specialized units including the Batalhão de Choque and BOPE, no arrests were made during the operation.

Authorities have shifted their strategy toward intelligence-led monitoring and patrolling in the Eldorado do Sul and Arroio dos Ratos municipalities to locate the individuals.
