Police operations in Ecuador and Argentina tackle fake officer and drug trafficking

In Ecuador, police detained a 32‑year‑old man who pretended to be a member of the elite Special Operations Group and used artificial‑intelligence tools to alter images and falsely present himself on social media. The arrest followed a citizen’s complaint and took place outside the State University of Southern Manabí in Jipijapa.

In Argentina, federal police carried out four simultaneous raids in the city of Goya, seizing 1.84 tonnes of cocaine, cash worth over 5.7 million pesos and other assets, and arresting the alleged leader of a narco‑retail network.

Both actions illustrate heightened law‑enforcement efforts in South America against identity fraud and drug‑related crime.
