Police operations target organized retail theft and fraudulent electronics sales

Law enforcement agencies in the United States and the United Kingdom have conducted operations targeting organized retail crime and the resale of stolen goods.

In Greenwich, Connecticut, officers arrested a 31-year-old man, Deng Li, following surveillance of suspicious purchasing activity. Investigators determined Li was using multiple older-model iPhones containing various iCloud accounts to purchase high-value electronics with suspected fraudulent funds. A search of his vehicle uncovered nine older iPhones, 17 FedEx receipts, and six new iPhone 18 Pros. Li faces multiple charges, including larceny, identity theft, and criminal impersonation.

In London, the Metropolitan Police concluded a two-week operation codenamed Zoridon, which targeted rogue shops and car boot sales suspected of selling stolen merchandise. The raids resulted in 42 arrests and the seizure of approximately £100,000 in suspected stolen goods, including 300 phones and £15,000 in cash from a single store in Hounslow. Authorities noted that prolific shoplifters are increasingly stealing specific items based on ‘shopping lists’ provided by organized criminal networks to fuel the resale market.
