Police presence reported at Poland's Constitutional Tribunal

A significant police presence was reported at the headquarters of Poland's Constitutional Tribunal on Friday during an international conference marking the institution's 40th anniversary. While some media reports suggested a mobilization aimed at potentially blocking access for Tribunal President Bogdan Święczkowski, the Warsaw Metropolitan Police stated that officers were present to secure the event and manage standard gatherings in the capital.

The heightened security comes amid legal scrutiny regarding the tribunal's previous leadership. The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights has filed a notification with the Prosecutor General alleging that former President Julia Przyłębska engaged in unlawful practices between 2015 and 2020. The allegations suggest that judicial panels were manipulated to ensure specific outcomes in politically significant cases. Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek confirmed that the investigation into these criminal allegations has been initiated.
