Police prevent lottery scam targeting elderly woman in Paraná

Police in Toledo, Paraná, intervened to prevent a 77-year-old woman from losing R$ 150,000 in a lottery scam. The victim was attempting to transfer funds at a bank after being deceived by individuals claiming to possess a winning R$ 19 million lottery ticket.

According to the Civil Police, the scam involved a woman approaching the victim under false pretenses and a man simulating a phone call to a purported central office of Caixa Econômica Federal to confirm the fake prize. A 54-year-old man was arrested during the intervention, and authorities seized bank cards in third-party names and simulated currency. This incident follows a similar scam in Peabiru, where a 74-year-old woman lost R$ 9,000 to the same group.
