Police prevent major fraud and robbery incidents in China and Taiwan
Police in Chongqing, China, successfully prevented a telecommunications fraud attempt, saving 430,000 yuan for a local resident. The victim, a resident of Shapingba District, was targeted by a scammer posing as an e-commerce customer service representative. When officers received a high-risk warning, they found the victim's phone had been remotely controlled and the screen blacked out. Officers intervened by removing the SIM card to sever the remote connection, subsequently assisting the victim in securing his funds through bank card loss reporting and factory resetting the device.
In a separate incident in Taiwan, prosecutors have recommended four-year prison sentences for a group involved in a cryptocurrency-related robbery. The group used social media advertisements to lure a victim into a face-to-face transaction involving 2.35 million TWD in cash. During the meeting, accomplices impersonated police officers to seize the cash and forcibly delete digital evidence from the victim's phone. The Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office has indicted the suspects for fraud and impersonating public officials.
