Slovenia traffic data shows alcohol-related accidents peak in summer and December

Data from the General Police Directorate indicates that driving under the influence of alcohol remains a primary cause of severe traffic accidents in Slovenia. In 2025, 31 people died due to accidents caused by alcohol or drugs, accounting for one-third of all road fatalities.

Alcohol-related accidents show significant seasonal trends, peaking during the summer months and in December. In August, police recorded 160 incidents involving intoxicated drivers, the highest number for a single month. A similar surge was observed in December with 149 intoxicated drivers identified. Authorities attribute these spikes to an increase in social events and gatherings during these periods.
