Police report rise in improvised weapons in northern Argentina
César Moreyra, head of the Investigations Police (PDI) in Reconquista, has warned of an increasing trend in the use of improvised, homemade weapons, known as ‘tumberas,’ across the northern Santa Fe region. Authorities report that these weapons, along with .22 caliber firearms, are being used in violent incidents in Reconquista, Avellaneda, and surrounding areas.
Police officials noted that investigations are often complicated by witnesses who deny involvement or refuse to provide concrete information during interventions. Despite these challenges, law enforcement has successfully seized several homemade and .22 caliber weapons and conducted arrests related to these violent episodes.
