Police report surge in fraud cases across Poland

Police in Poland are reporting a continuous wave of fraudulent activities targeting individuals through psychological manipulation. Criminals are employing various tactics to exploit victims, often by impersonating authority figures or romantic interests to induce fear or trust.

In Lower Silesia, several incidents have been documented. One resident of Wrocław lost 100,000 PLN after individuals posing as postal workers and police officers claimed her assets were at risk. Another 82-year-old woman in Wrocław was coerced into handing over gold and silver jewelry valued at approximately 17,000 PLN by a man impersonating a police officer. Additionally, a woman in the Jawor district lost 137,000 PLN after a man posing as a police officer used a fake traffic accident involving a family member to extort her savings.

In the Iława district, a 72-year-old woman fell victim to a romance scam. An individual posing as a biomedical professional working in Qatar established a month-long correspondence with her. The scammer eventually convinced her to pay over 10,000 PLN under the guise of customs fees for a package supposedly being sent to Poland.
