Police rescue 78-year-old man lost in German forest

A 78-year-old man was rescued after being lost for several hours in a large forest area near Rastow, south of Schwerin, Germany. The man had disappeared while mushroom picking with his wife, who had been searching for him for approximately four to five hours before authorities were notified.

Due to the size of the forest—roughly 12 square kilometers—and approaching sunset, a large-scale search operation was launched. The rescue effort included patrol cars from the Ludwigslust police station, a police helicopter, a drone from the criminal police, and a tracking dog brought in from Rostock.

At approximately 18:50, the police helicopter spotted the man, who appeared unable to stand up on his own. Guided by the helicopter crew, officers reached him on foot and brought him to safety by 19:15. After being evaluated by medical personnel, the man was reunited with his wife in a neighboring community later that evening in good health.
