Police Rescue of Kidnapped Youth in Lauro de Freitas, Brazil

Colonel Humberto Sturaro praised the Military Police's 52nd Independent Company (CIPM) after it rescued a teenager who had been kidnapped by members of the Red Command (Comando Vermelho) in the Vila Praiana area of Lauro de Freitas, part of the Salvador metropolitan region. The operation, described by Sturaro as a "beautiful work," was prompted when the victim's mother reported his disappearance to the police station. The police quickly mobilized a task force, locating the young man in a territory controlled by the criminal faction and bringing him to safety.

Sturaro highlighted the rapid response and leadership of sub‑tenente Patrícia Lima, the unit commander, crediting her decisive role in the successful outcome. He also rejected accusations of religious intolerance directed at the officers, emphasizing that their sole concern was to recover the youth alive. The rescue prevented a potential tragedy and underscored the police's commitment to confronting organized crime in the region.
