Police resolve child rape encounter and abduction cases in India

In separate criminal incidents in India, police have apprehended suspects involved in a child rape case and a child abduction.

In Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, police engaged in an encounter with a 27-year-old suspect, identified as Shankar, accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in September 2023. According to officials, while being escorted to the crime scene, the suspect opened fire on a police team led by Sub-Inspector Anurag Singh. In the ensuing retaliatory firing, the suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. He is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

In a separate case, the Nagpur Government Railway Police (GRP) rescued a 6-year-old boy who had been abducted at Nagpur station. The suspect, Mithun Kumar Dayachandra Paswan, allegedly lured the child's father with promises of employment before fleeing with the boy. After tracking the suspect via CCTV and witness descriptions, GRP officers pursued the train by car for 670 kilometers, eventually intercepting the suspect at Mirzapur railway station and recovering the child.
