Multiple mountain rescues across Italy on August 1 2026

On 1 August 2026 a series of mountain‑rescue operations were carried out throughout Italy. Two hikers from Venice were stranded by a violent thunderstorm on a trail near Monte Geu in Friuli‑Venezia Giulia and were recovered by an alpine‑rescue helicopter. An Irish hiker lost his way on the Alta Via 1 near Rifugio Bianchet in Belluno and was located after sending GPS coordinates from his phone; he was evacuated by the Falco 2 helicopter. In the Belluno province, several other incidents were attended, including a 75‑year‑old woman with malaise at Rifugio Semenza, a 36‑year‑old American tourist with a suspected wrist fracture at Rifugio Pian de Fontana, and multiple teenagers with injuries on various trails, all rescued by Falco 2. The Alpine and Speleological Rescue Corps in Abruzzo assisted a 34‑year‑old Roman woman who lost consciousness near Rifugio Fioretti on Gran Sasso and later helped two Roman hikers suffering dehydration on Monte Etra. Similar helicopter rescues occurred in Primiero (Trentino), the Grignetta and Grignone areas, Vilminore di Scalve, and Siracusa, and a scout group lost in the Modena‑Reggio border woods was retrieved by fire‑service crews using a winch.
