Police respond to separate stabbing incidents in Piauí and Alagoas

Two separate stabbing incidents involving attempted murder have been reported in different Brazilian states.

In Beneditinos, Piauí, a 56-year-old man was stabbed twice, including once in the back, following a dispute at a bar. The victim was transferred to the Hospital de Urgência de Teresina (HUT) due to the severity of his condition. The suspect, João Batista Costa Pereira, was arrested after resisting police; he claimed he acted in self-defense during a political argument. He has since been placed in preventive detention.

In São Sebastião, Alagoas, a suspect was apprehended in Espírito Santo for an attempted murder that occurred in October 2025. Investigators state the suspect surprised the victim with a knife, striking the chest, abdomen, head, and wrist. The victim required emergency surgery for intestinal perforations and internal bleeding. Police noted the suspect has a history of drug trafficking and domestic violence, and allegedly attacked the same victim in a previous incident.
