The robots are built from aluminium and high‑strength plastic and are equipped with facial‑recognition and behavioural‑analysis systems that detect agitation and stream video to a police command centre. The article presents the technology in a positive light, referring to the units as “creatures” that have “gone down a treat with the public.”

Critics argue the robots are part of a broader push to normalise surveillance and AI‑driven policing, warning that “those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” They contend that the K9‑Xs could be used to suppress dissent, citing concerns about an “army of militarised police robots” that would provide a permanent, obedient force for authorities.
