Police Scotland appeal after red kite caught in illegal trap

Police Scotland has issued an appeal for information following an incident in May where a red kite was caught in an illegal Duke coil spring trap in the Strathdon area of Aberdeenshire.

Authorities stated that the specific trap used is not approved for use in Scotland. Red kites are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act, which makes it illegal to take, injure, or kill the species. Constable Ann Ashman noted that such trapping is cruel and poses risks to other wildlife and the public.

Extensive inquiries have been conducted, and police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident or the use of this particular trap in the area to contact them or Crimestoppers anonymously.
