Police Scotland officer convicted of multiple rapes in Shetland

Carmichael John Williamson, a 32-year-old Police Scotland officer with over ten years of service, has been found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual offenses at the High Court in Edinburgh. The convictions stem from incidents occurring in the Shetland area between 2014 and 2022.

The jury found Williamson guilty of raping a teenage girl between 2014 and 2015, including an instance of underage sex in 2014. He was also convicted of raping an adult woman on two separate occasions in 2020 and 2022, during which the victim was unable to consent due to intoxication.

Williamson, who was a special constable during the earliest offenses, contested the allegations throughout the trial. Following the verdict, he was remanded in custody and placed on the sex offenders register. Sentencing is scheduled for December 8 at the High Court in Edinburgh.
