Police search for missing elderly couple near Altmühlsee

Police in Germany have launched an intensive search for an elderly couple missing near Altmühlsee in the Gunzenhausen area. The couple, Kurt J. (82) and Ursula J. (78) from Baden-Württemberg, were traveling with a tour group when they disappeared on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The pair reportedly left their tour bus at the Schlungenau parking lot around 1:30 PM, heading toward Muhr am See. When they failed to return by 4:00 PM, the tour guide alerted authorities. Despite search efforts involving a police helicopter, the couple has not yet been located.

Authorities expressed concern that the couple may be in a state of distress and in need of urgent medical assistance. Kurt J. is described as approximately 170 cm tall with short gray hair and a receding hairline, wearing dark jeans, a blue-and-white checkered shirt, and a turquoise jacket. Ursula J. is approximately 155 cm tall with short gray hair, wearing an orange top, a gray jacket, and a prominent pearl necklace.
