Chilean police search for Makarena Tolosa after uncles arrested for suspected murder

Authorities in Chile are investigating the disappearance and suspected murder of 29-year-old Makarena Tolosa. Following her disappearance in Pudahuel on May 8, the investigation has led to the arrest and formalization of two of her uncles. Prosecutors allege the suspects were involved in her kidnapping and subsequent homicide, potentially motivated by an attempt to prevent Tolosa from revealing a sexual relationship and demanding money.

The Investigative Police (PDI) have launched searches along the banks of the Mapocho River in the Cerro Navia area to locate her body. Evidence, including audio recordings sent by Tolosa to a friend on the day she vanished, places her with the suspects in the hours before she disappeared.

In separate incidents, an 85-year-old woman, Alicia del Carmen Rojas, was found dead in the Maule Region after being missing for six days. Preliminary investigations by the PDI suggest no signs of third-party involvement in her death.
