Police seek witnesses after cyclist injured in Weimar assault

Police in Weimar are searching for witnesses following a dangerous assault on August 1, 2026. Around 6:30 PM on Moskauer Straße, a cyclist was injured when a firecracker or similar pyrotechnic device was detonated near them, causing a loud explosion and damaging the victim's clothing. The injured individual subsequently sought medical treatment at a hospital.

The suspect is described as a man approximately 35 years old, wearing long trousers and a light-colored T-shirt. Witnesses noted the man appeared to be intoxicated and was carrying a beer bottle. Notably, the suspect reportedly offered a brief apology to the victim immediately after the incident. The Jena Police are investigating the case as suspected dangerous bodily harm.
