Granada drug raids seize 13,000 marijuana plants and 37 suspects
The Guardia Civil has conducted extensive anti-drug operations across the province of Granada, resulting in the seizure of over 13,000 marijuana plants and 732 kilograms of cannabis buds. The raids, which involved approximately 200 agents and dozens of searches, targeted several municipalities including Fuente Vaqueros, Atarfe, Gor, Pinos Puente, and Iznalloz. The seized drugs have an estimated black market value of approximately five million euros.
In Iznalloz, known as Operation Garnata Silo, authorities discovered a sophisticated underground plantation consisting of five interconnected maritime containers buried beneath the surface. This setup featured advanced lighting, climate control, and ventilation systems designed to evade visual detection. Four individuals were arrested in connection with this specific operation.
In the broader metropolitan area, including Fuente Vaqueros and Pinos Puente, the investigation revealed widespread indoor cultivation and illegal electricity connections. Technicians from Endesa identified multiple fraudulent taps used to power the plantations. The operations have led to at least 37 arrests and the seizure of various weapons, cash, and vehicles.
