Police sergeant and wife found dead in São José de Mipibu

A Military Police sergeant and his wife were found dead inside their home in São José de Mipibu, located in the Greater Natal region, on Tuesday night. The bodies of 3rd Sergeant Wellanci Viana de Freitas and his wife were discovered in a state of decomposition after neighbors and family members reported a strong odor emanating from the residence.

Authorities found that both victims had sustained gunshot wounds. A 9mm Taurus G2C pistol was recovered near the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of a murder-suicide, though this has not been officially confirmed. At the time of the incident, Sergeant Viana was reportedly on medical leave from his police duties. The Civil Police and the Homicide and Person Protection Division (DHPP) are leading the investigation, while forensic teams work to determine the exact cause of death and time of death.
