Santiago police operations result in multiple deaths and arrests

A series of violent incidents and police operations in Santiago, Dominican Republic, have resulted in several deaths and arrests. In La Canela, a DICRIM sergeant, José Ramón Henríquez Mejía, died following a confrontation with two individuals on a motorcycle. A 17-year-old adolescent and 21-year-old Steven Antonio Sandoval Bautista, known as ‘El Vico’, surrendered to authorities after the incident, which reportedly began as a dispute following a collision.

In separate operations, authorities reported the deaths of two men during confrontations with the Dirección Central de Investigación (Dicrim). Ramón Antonio Jáquez Torres, alias ‘La Changa’, died following an encounter in the La Yagüita de Pastor sector, while Cristopher Tolentino Devora, alias ‘El Cantante’, was killed during an attempt to execute an arrest warrant in the Bermúdez sector.

These events follow a broader trend of violence affecting the National Police, with reports indicating at least eight agents lost their lives in the line of duty during the early months of the year.
