Police shoot man dead following vehicle chase in Trinidad and Tobago
A 26-year-old man, identified as Karlise Hart of Carenage, was shot and killed by police during an operation in the Arima district early Saturday morning.
The incident began around 12:50 am when patrol officers observed a suspicious red Nissan Almera in Malabar. An attempt to intercept the vehicle led to a high-speed chase through several streets, including Subero Street and Trainline, before the vehicle stopped near the Arima Old Road. The three occupants of the car reportedly fled in different directions.
Following the pursuit, officers located Hart on a galvanized rooftop at Saroga Drive. According to police reports, Hart allegedly pointed an object resembling a firearm at two officers, prompting them to discharge several rounds. Hart was transported to the Arima Health Facility, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 am.
Crime scene investigators recovered five spent 9mm shells, a knife, and a black revolver containing one live .38-calibre round at the scene.
