São Paulo police incidents involve fatal shooting and Matsunaga home robbery

Two distinct violent incidents involving the Military Police in São Paulo have drawn significant attention.

In the first case, 20-year-old Gustavo Munis de Santana was shot and killed in the Moema neighborhood. Police officers fired a total of 45 shots, striking Santana 27 times. The intervention followed a call regarding a potential suicide attempt. Officers claimed they mistook a mobile phone in Santana's hand for a firearm. The Secretary of Public Security, Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, stated the action appeared to be legitimate self-defense, though investigations into the use of force are ongoing.

In a separate incident in the Alto de Pinheiros neighborhood, criminals invaded the residence of Mitsuo Matsunaga, the former father-in-law of Elize Matsunaga. Six family members were held hostage during the robbery. A confrontation with the Rota police unit resulted in the deaths of three suspects and the arrest of a fourth. One police officer was wounded during the exchange and was treated at Hospital das Clínicas.
