Police shootout in Poano kills three suspected armed robbers

Three suspected armed robbers were killed during a shootout with police in Poano, near Knawel, in the Ashanti Region. The suspects, identified as 56-year-old Yaw Adu-Gyamfi (alias Forsher), 38-year-old Emmanuel Boamah Gyebi (alias Begee), and 29-year-old Felix Topman (alias Rasta), were part of a gang wanted for a series of robberies and killings.

Acting on intelligence, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command traced the group to a hideout at the Dousarp Hotel in Atwima Mim on September 22, 2026. The suspects reportedly opened fire on the tactical team while preparing to launch a fresh ambush on road users along the Anwiankwanta–Antoakrom Road. Following the exchange of gunfire, the three men were rushed to Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

During investigations, Yaw Adu-Gyamfi allegedly confessed to involvement in several high-profile crimes, including the killings of the Chiefs of Atwima Mim and Atwima Koforidua, as well as the shooting of a retired officer. Police recovered a pump-action gun, BB cartridges, and .32 Auto ammunition from the scene. Authorities are currently cross-checking the recovered weapons against ballistic records from previous unsolved cases.
