Police shootouts and vehicle pursuits reported in San Jose and Taiwan
In San Jose, California, a police shootout occurred on Tuesday after Anthony Chavez, a suspect linked to two recent armed robberies, fled into a private residence containing young children. During the pursuit, Chavez engaged officers in a gunfight, resulting in one officer being wounded and Chavez being killed. The suspect was allegedly involved in robberies at a bank and a shopping center over the preceding weekend.
In Taiwan, separate incidents of violent driving and evasion were reported. In Taipei's Zhongshan District, a driver identified by the surname Xu fled a police checkpoint by ramming officers' vehicles twice. Police fired three shots at the vehicle before the suspect was apprehended at a hotel. In Miaoli County, a man surnamed Huang was arrested in Zhunan after fleeing a checkpoint while driving without a license and testing positive for amphetamines. Huang's vehicle collided with a police car during the pursuit, leading to multiple traffic violations and potential fines totaling up to 187,200 TWD.
