Police staffing shortages in Lasithi and protest security in Cyprus

The Police Officers Union of Lasithi is calling for an immediate and substantial increase in personnel for the Lasithi Police Directorate. This deficit is reportedly exacerbated by retirements and departures, complicating duties related to tourism, traffic safety, and migration management in the region.

Separately, police in Cyprus have issued advisories regarding a planned protest scheduled for September 10, 2026, outside the Presidential Palace. Authorities will be present to manage security and traffic. Under current legislation, organizers are required to cooperate with police to ensure peaceful conduct, and authorities maintain the right to impose restrictions or dissolve gatherings if they become non-peaceful or pose risks to property and safety.
