Police torture trial: Witnesses testify regarding Vasilis Magos
The trial of six police officers accused of torturing Vasilis Magos in Volos in June 2020 continued in Karditsa. The defendants face charges including torture following Magos's arrest during protests against waste incineration.
Witnesses testified to Magos's dire physical and psychological state. One witness, who encountered Magos outside the Volos Police Station, described seeing him gesturing for help and noted he appeared to be in extreme pain. The witness reported that Magos claimed he was beaten by officers in various locations, including inside a police vehicle and the detention center. He also alleged that officers mocked his requests for water.
A friend of Magos testified that he assisted the victim in returning home after the incident, noting that Magos was in such pain that he could barely move. The court proceedings were marked by tension, resulting in the removal of Magos's father, Giannis Magos, from the courtroom.
