Police union demands dismissal of Croatia's Police Director General

The police officers' union in Croatia has formally requested the urgent dismissal of Police Director General Nikola Milina. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Interior Minister Davor Božinović, the union cited systemic failures and a lack of protection for a young officer involved in the ‘Nakaza affair’.

The union argues that the incident is no longer an isolated case but evidence of deep-seated issues within the police leadership. They claim the officer, who was performing her duties during a fire in Skradin in July 2024, did not receive the expected support from her superiors after filing an official report.

During court testimony in Karlovac, the officer testified that Joško Periša, the head of traffic police in Šibenik, attempted to dissuade her from filing a criminal complaint. She alleged that Periša suggested there would be ‘nothing from it’ because the incident involved the family of Nediljko Dujić, a former official of Croatian Forests. The union is calling for an independent investigation into the pressures placed on the officer and the conduct of various police officials.
