Police vehicles involved in separate collisions in Mexico and California

Two separate incidents involving collisions with law enforcement vehicles have been reported in Mexico and the United States.

In Piedras Negras, Mexico, a municipal security patrol vehicle sustained severe damage after being struck by a driver who failed to yield to the emergency unit. The accident occurred on Avenida Fidel Villarreal while officers were transporting a detainee. Although the patrol vehicle may be declared a total loss, the officers and the detainee were treated for injuries and are out of danger. One individual from the responsible vehicle was detained.

In Ventura County, California, a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer was hospitalized in serious condition after a head-on collision. Investigators determined that 34-year-old Derek Skinner was driving under the influence when his vehicle crossed the center line on Grimes Canyon Road. A female passenger in the suspect's vehicle also sustained serious injuries, though both are expected to recover. Skinner was arrested for driving under the influence causing bodily injury.
