Police warn of 25 sophisticated cybercrime scenarios for 2026

Police authorities have issued a warning regarding 25 common cybercrime scenarios expected to persist through 2026. Criminals are increasingly utilizing sophisticated technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deepfake, and DeepVoice, to build trust and deceive victims.

The fraudulent activities are categorized into five primary groups:

1. Impersonation of authorities or organizations: Scammers pose as police, prosecutors, courts, banks, schools, or healthcare providers to solicit personal information, OTP codes, or money under the guise of verifying information or settling debts.

2. AI-driven deception: Using Deepfake and DeepVoice technology to mimic the images, videos, or voices of relatives, friends, or officials to request urgent fund transfers.

3. Financial and employment scams: Advertising high-paying, low-effort jobs or inviting victims to invest in stocks, cryptocurrency, or foreign exchange with promises of high returns.

4. Online commerce fraud: Using fake transfer receipts or impersonating buyers and sellers to demand deposits during e-commerce transactions.
