Police warn of e-commerce scams targeting online shoppers

Police have issued a warning regarding a sophisticated scam targeting online shoppers. Fraudsters are impersonating employees from e-commerce platforms, specific brands, or delivery services to deceive victims.

Scammers often possess accurate details about recent orders, including the buyer's name, product type, and delivery time, to build trust. They typically contact victims claiming a recently delivered item is defective, prohibited, or unsafe and requires an urgent recall.

To facilitate the scam, criminals direct victims to communication platforms like Zalo, Telegram, or Facebook under the guise of processing returns or refunds. They then provide fraudulent links or QR codes. Following these instructions can lead to the theft of bank account information, authentication codes, or full device takeover, allowing unauthorized transactions.
