Policlinico di Bari launches oncology pathway protection service

The Policlinico di Bari has established a new Service for the Protection and Monitoring of Oncology Pathways to assist cancer patients in navigating diagnostic and therapeutic processes. Coordinated by the health management department, the service provides a single point of contact for patients to report organizational obstacles, such as missing exams or difficulties scheduling follow-up appointments after hospitalization.

The initiative aims to intercept logistical issues that could compromise the continuity of care. By activating connections between relevant structures and professionals, the service seeks to find solutions with fewer steps for the patient. This new unit will work in synergy with the existing Oncology Orientation Center (CORO), which handles initial patient intake.

While clinical decisions and treatments remain the responsibility of medical professionals, reports will be evaluated by a multidisciplinary team. This team includes medical, oncological, nursing, and administrative staff with expertise in both adult and pediatric oncology.
