Policlinico di Milano acquires advanced Chinese robotic surgery systems
The Policlinico di Milano has received two advanced robotic surgery systems from the Chinese company Edge Medical. These next-generation robots are intended for progressive use in clinical practice, marking a new model of industrial cooperation between Italy and China.
Based in Shenzhen, Edge Medical provides multi-port surgical robots featuring high-quality vision and intraoperative fluorescence. Luigi Boni, Director of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Policlinico di Milano, stated that the platforms will be deployed across various departments, including abdominal surgery, urology, gynecology, thoracic surgery, and hepatic surgery.
The technology is designed to support surgeons in performing minimally invasive procedures with high precision and stability. By translating hand movements into extremely accurate instrument motions through small incisions, the system allows for operations in restricted spaces and aims to increase hospital capacity, reduce waiting times, and improve patient access to robotic technology.
