Policlinico di Milano adds two Chinese surgical robots to new Padiglione Sforza hub

The Policlinico di Milano has become the first public hospital in Italy to acquire two next‑generation surgical robots from China. The systems will be introduced gradually and integrated into the new surgical hub of the Padiglione Sforza, which will host 26 operating rooms equipped with robotics, advanced imaging and minimally invasive technologies.

According to Luigi Boni, director of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the hospital and professor at the Università degli Studi di Milano, the robots provide highly detailed intra‑operative imaging and precise instrument control, improving surgical accuracy and patient recovery. The acquisition reflects a broader shift toward Asian manufacturers in the evolving field of robotic surgery.

The new platforms will support procedures in abdominal, urological, gynecological, thoracic and hepatic surgery, expanding the hospital’s operative capacity and making robotic technology more accessible within the public health system.
