Polio virus detected in sewage samples across Karachi districts

The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has reported the presence of the polio virus in environmental sewage samples from six districts in Karachi: Central, East, Keamari, Malir, South, and West.

While no traces of the virus were detected in these Karachi districts during June, the July reports indicate a resurgence. Beyond Karachi, positive environmental samples were also identified in the Kashmore district of Sindh, as well as in Chaman, Dera Bugti, and Quetta in Balochistan. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the virus was confirmed in sewage samples from Bannu and Peshawar, and in Punjab, samples from Rawalpindi also tested positive.

Medical experts and polio eradication officials are urging parents to ensure children receive polio vaccination drops to prevent the spread of the virus.
