Polish agricultural chambers seek pension and insurance reforms

The National Council of Agricultural Chambers (KRIR) has submitted requests to the Polish Minister of Agriculture to initiate legislative work regarding two major reforms in the agricultural sector.

First, KRIR is seeking a reform of the social insurance system for farmers. The proposal aims to allow the combination of insurance periods between the agricultural insurance system (KRUS) and the universal social insurance system (ZUS). This is intended to support farmers with mixed insurance histories—those who worked in both systems due to agricultural transformations—who currently face low pensions because they do not meet the 25-year requirement for either specific system.

Second, KRIR is advocating for changes to crop insurance laws. The council proposes expanding the catalog of insured risks to include damages caused by high temperatures, such as fruit burns. Additionally, the council is calling for improved drought monitoring and more equitable access to insurance protections for all branches of agricultural production, specifically highlighting the needs of fruit and vegetable producers.
