Polish agricultural markets face pricing and contract tensions

Polish agricultural sectors are facing pricing challenges and negotiation difficulties. In the apple market, the Idared variety is seeing low ‘paper’ prices, with some groups listing it at 1.10 PLN/kg for fruit over 70 mm. This low valuation is attributed to the variety's position in international trade, declining prices for industrial apples, and significant existing stocks from the previous year still held in cold storage.

In the sugar beet sector, negotiations for 2027 contracts are strained. Krzysztof Nykiel, President of KZPBC, noted that proposed prices from sugar producers—ranging between 25 and 30 euros per ton—fail to satisfy growers. The tension stems from a combination of volatile sugar market conditions and rapidly increasing production costs for farmers, making the long-term profitability of beet cultivation uncertain.
