Polish agricultural subsidies and fertilizer aid updates
The Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARiMR) has announced that advance payments for 2026 direct subsidies will begin on September 8. These advances may cover up to 75 percent of direct payments and up to 85 percent of certain payments from the second pillar of the Common Agricultural Policy. ARiMR stated that the calculation of these funds will consider extraordinary circumstances, such as difficult farm situations, unfavorable weather conditions, and random events, though this is not expected to delay payments for other farmers.
Separately, the National Council of Agricultural Chambers (KRIR) is protesting the proposed rules for fertilizer subsidies. While the European Commission has granted Poland 66.63 million euros to support farmers affected by rising fertilizer prices, the current plan limits eligibility to purchases made between March 1 and June 30, 2026. KRIR argues this timeframe excludes many producers, particularly commercial farms that typically purchase larger quantities of fertilizer after the harvest or in the autumn to secure better prices.
