Agricultural markets face price shifts in Poland and Czech Republic

Agricultural markets in Poland and the Czech Republic are experiencing significant price shifts across various sectors. In Poland, dairy prices saw a slight increase of 2.5% in August, reaching 176.52 PLN/hl, though they remain 21.5% lower than the previous year. Meanwhile, Credit Agricole analysts predict falling poultry prices due to increased production and improved epidemiological conditions, though egg prices may rise temporarily due to seasonal demand.

Other commodities show mixed trends. Piglet prices have seen sharp weekly declines, with imported Danish piglets being notably cheaper than domestic options. In the produce market, tomato prices are falling while pepper and cucumber prices rise due to dwindling supply. Additionally, retail trends indicate that extreme discounts on butter in discount stores are ending as market conditions shift.

In the Czech Republic, Mlékárna Hlinsko reported a decline in operating profit to 87 million CZK and a net loss of 8 million CZK, attributed to unstable milk purchase prices, high processing costs in Europe, and reduced consumer demand for expensive dairy products.
