Polish and Ukrainian memory institutes hold first meeting since 2018

Delegations from the Polish Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) and the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory met in Lviv on October 14, 2026. This marked the first direct working meeting between the heads of these institutions since 2018.

The Polish delegation was led by Karol Polejowski, deputy president of the IPN. The Ukrainian side was represented by Oleksandr Alfiorov, director of the Ukrainian IPN.

One of the primary topics of discussion involved the burial of 115 Polish soldiers who died in September 1939. These soldiers were exhumed earlier this year during excavation work in the Lviv-Holosko area.
