Polish Association of the Blind celebrates 75th anniversary

The Polish Association of the Blind (Polski Związek Niewidomych) marked its 75th anniversary with a gala held at the Royal Castle in Warsaw on International White Cane Day. The organization has historically facilitated significant advancements for the visually impaired, including the introduction of large-print text, electronic versions of publications, typhlological libraries, and audiobooks.

Beyond media accessibility, the association has been involved in legal advocacy, such as removing the requirement for notary confirmation for signatures made by blind individuals. Its work also encompasses guide dog training, vision rehabilitation, the establishment of residential rehabilitation centers, vocational activation, and the development of accessible cultural and sporting standards.

Andrzej Brzeziński, president of the association, emphasized that the organization functions as a community with the goal of creating a world accessible to everyone, rather than a world exclusively for the blind.
