CBA arrests individuals in Lower Silesia flood relief scandal

The Central Anticorruption Bureau (CBA) has conducted a series of arrests and operations in Lower Silesia following orders from the European Public Prosecutor's Office. The investigation centers on a scandal involving the misappropriation of flood relief funds distributed after the 2024 floods.

Authorities are scrutinizing the Karkonoska Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego (KARR), a local government agency responsible for distributing government and EU aid. Investigations revealed that approximately 4.5 million PLN in aid was granted to three companies in the same locality, despite satellite data and fire department records suggesting those specific properties were not flooded.

Reports indicate that several individuals have been detained, including Anna Konieczyńska, the former vice president of KARR, and her husband. Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister Coordinator of Special Services, confirmed that the CBA analyzed 900 applications and identified 50 suspicious cases. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the fraud and the roles of those involved.
