Polish authorities debunk puma sighting near Czech border
Authorities in Poland have confirmed that reports and photographic evidence of a puma roaming near Zagórze Śląskie and Michałkowa were false. The Świdnica Forest District initially issued a precautionary warning to residents and tourists after a camera trap image appeared to show the large predator.
Following a detailed verification by the Świdnica District Police and local crisis management teams, officials determined the photograph was not authentic. Extensive searches conducted by forest guards, hunters, and animal welfare foundations found no tracks or evidence of a large feline in the area; all discovered tracks belonged to other wild species.
The Świdnica Forest District stated the initial alert was released as a preventive measure to ensure public safety. Police are currently working to identify the individual responsible for the misinformation.
