Polish authorities respond to rocket impact near Lublin

A rocket exploded in the early hours before dawn in the Lublin region of eastern Poland, causing material damage but no casualties. The incident highlights the proximity of the war in neighboring Ukraine, where Russian missile and drone attacks have been ongoing since February 2022. Recent Russian bombardments of Lviv and surrounding areas near the Polish border have resulted in significant destruction and dozens of injuries.

Polish officials at national and local levels are assessing the effectiveness of warning and defence procedures, urging a balanced response that avoids panic or indifference. The event coincided with a meeting between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which the two leaders discussed practical cooperation between Poland and Ukraine in the face of the Russian threat.
