Polish authorities seize over a tonne of heroin at Gdynia port in major drug bust

Polish police and customs officers seized 1,037 kg of heroin, worth an estimated €37‑52 million, at the Baltic Sea port of Gdynia. The drugs were hidden in containers that had arrived from the United Arab Emirates and were falsely declared as decorative finishing bricks. The operation was triggered after a tip from the United Kingdom's HM Revenue and Customs.

Three Polish nationals – two men and a woman aged 33 to 43 – were arrested, with two placed in pre‑trial detention and charged with attempting to transport large quantities of narcotics. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński cited the bust as part of intensified anti‑drug efforts, noting dozens of labs and cannabis plantations shut down in recent months. The seizure is described by officials as one of the largest drug busts in Poland’s recent history.
