Polish authorities warn consumers about phone scams and telemarketing

Polish police have issued a warning about telephone scams targeting especially seniors, describing how fraudsters impersonate officials, banks or relatives to obtain personal data, bank details, or money. They advise victims to end the call immediately, avoid sharing any PINs, passwords, or financial information, and to verify any request with the relevant institution.

The national consumer watchdog (UOKiK) also recommends a simple phrase to stop unwanted telemarketing calls: "Proszę usunąć mój numer z państwa bazy" (Please remove my number from your database). The statement invokes the right to be forgotten and obliges the company to delete the consumer’s contact details. Experts stress remaining calm, not making rushed purchasing decisions, and checking offers online before acting.

Both agencies emphasize that no legitimate authority will request sensitive data over the phone and encourage callers to report suspicious attempts to the police (112).
